Alice Schwarzer’s appeal to ban prostitution has sparked a lively debate in the German media. Beyond the moral and political questions of how to deal with sex work, it has also become clear that the debate is dominated by projections, fantasies and myths. There is also no authoritative information available on sex work because the field remains heavily stigmatised and, as such, sex workers rarely take part in the discussion or participate in the public representation of their work. With Missy Magazine the International Summer Festival 2014 is hosting a conference in which academics, sex workers, artists and writers engage in lectures, discussions and performances, examining images of sex work that have dominated the discussion, now and in the past.
